Developing Cross-Platform UNIX Applications with OS X is a good overview of cross platform development.

I am thinking of ditching Install Nowhere and moving to simplier Native installers for Photo ShowOff. I like how easy it is for users to install desktop applications on the mac. I am looking at using IzPack until I write or get someone else to write and support the native installers for each OS.

A new book came in the mail today. Cocoa Programming by Anguish, Buck, and Yacktman. I have been playing with InterfaceBuilder to prototype enhancements to Photo ShowOff's simple GUI. Once I learned that there are Java bindings for Cocoa, I ordered this book to learn more about the APIs. Perhaps I will even try my hand at Objective C. I yearn for officially supported Ruby bindings to Cocoa. This book is massive, which is great and a bummer. It is bigger than Thinking in Java which is a book that solidified Java for me, and caused me much back pain.

Announcing: PhotoShowOff version 0.2.2

PhotoShowOff 0.2.2 is released. Un-install your old copy and install this new one. New features include improved error handeling, better group navigation display. Also you can set a maximum limit for the size of your photos under Album perferences.
Powered by CSS

ShowOff is a HTML photo album generator. It installs on your computer and doesn't require any special web hosting service. Just organize your photos, tell ShowOff where they live, and generate a nice photo website. This Sample Album is typical of the default settings. Websites can be customized by editing just one CSS file.

1. Designed to publish thousands of photos.
2. Fits with web design/development programs you already own and use.
3. No website hosting requirements.
4. As standards compliant as possible.

Alpha software

This program is very new and is incomplete, has bugs, and will cause gingervitis. This is all well and good, but I need you to test and use ShowOff.

Random Mac OS 10.3 notes
Create ~/.bash_profile and add CVS_RSH=ssh
Fire up apps with
open /Applications/Firefox.app from commandline instead of hunting through Finder or Using QuickSilver ( which is interfering with Eclipse's crl spacebar. )
Does anyone want an invite to gmail? I have 6 invites. Shoot me an email shout @ ozten . com.

I still haven't heard back from gmail about deleting more than 100 spam permenantly at a time.

I stupidly signed up for some accounts with my gmail account name directly, so I can't get any emails from those services as my gmail account is still full.

Mail.app on OS X is treating me well. I delete about 50,000 email every two weeks. You can bet the little rainbow ball is swirling when I purge the spam box.
