I have a different perspecitive. If you are the only person that knows about system X and then you get an opportunity to work on system Y, they might hold you back, becuase you are the only one that can maintain and develop system X. If you have documented X and shared your knowledge freely, then anyone can step up and take over X while you get to do the really fun new stuff.

I have started documenting everything I know about my job. I am writing this as a book in docbook format. Some developers horde information as job security. They don't want new people to learn what's going on, so they can maintain their status.

Real.com has hired me on full time. I have been here for over a year writing Orderpaths for their consumer marketing group.

I usually read one technical book at a time straight through once and then refer to it as needed. It is a fairly masochistic practise, but I enjoy it. I have been subscribing to Safari and not getting the most out of it, becuase of this habit. This month I have a totally different reading style. Previously I had started Modern Compiler Implementation in Java. Then I started reading Hardcore Java on Safari. Halfway through I got a SOAP project to work on and also started reading Java and SOAP. This week I got the brand new book Java ServerFaces in the mail. I am a bit overloaded. I love having hard copy editions on the bus ride to and from work. I will give multithreaded reading a try and see how it fares.

I hacked on Photo ShowOff last night. I fleshed out the Group navigation per Patty's request and added alphanumeric sort to Group and Photos per Alan's request. It is great when you can put an hour or two into a project get a couple tasks crossed off the list.
