CLSQL troubles

I hit a brick wall with the clsql "sql reader syntax". The following

(select 'pattern :where [= 1 [pattern_id]])

Would work fine in the REPL, but failed to work in my hunchentoot handlers. I eventually found a mailing list post suggesting to downgrade to 3.7.0. I did so, quite emacs, reloaded all my code and now things are working.
