Synchronizing Mac OS X Tiger's AddressBook with Gmail and Mail.app

Instead of hosting my own email, I have decided to switch back to Gmail.
They have just added Contact import/export and combined with POP access, it's go time.

Gmail understands CSV ( or comma separated values ) and Mac OS X AddressBook understands VCard, so I found a website VCard to CSV Converter.
It couldn't understand my vCard, but with 1 preferences change, we were in business.

  1. So in preferences > vCard > 3.0 format I switched to 2.1

  2. Close preferences

  3. Go to Address Book and highlight all your contacts.

  4. Export as vCard to your desktop

  5. Goto http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/

  6. Choose File - vCard file from your desktop

  7. Format - Gmail

  8. convert -> Save this file to your desktop

  9. Gmail click Contacts on left hand side

  10. Import the csv file from your desktop.

Now all your Mail.app contacts are in Gmail.
