The Conversation: Ira Glass & Julia Sweeney
Patty and I went to An evening with Julia Sweeney and Ira Glass Saturday night. It was an incredible show. Julia Sweeney did part of her monologue on the G o d. This is her second one woman act on the topic. Her earlier work "God said Ha!" and now this one "Letting go of God".
I had no idea what a profound and driven thinker Julia Sweeney is. It was a great hour listening to her condensed journey through Catholicism and modern thought.
It was really great to see Ira Glass in person. We get First balcony, middle seats, so they we pretty easier to see in their big poofy chairs. Ira introduced and then later came out and had a dialog / discussion with Julia.
I felt that the synthesis of her journey was fair. It is extremely hard to discuss religion publicly. The statements where honest, complicated, and grey in some areas. There weren't any glib or disingenuous attacks made.
They both have a PNW history, so they got a strong greeting and warm reception. The end was a standing ovation.
