We have finally filled up our first food composter. What is a food composter you ask?

Is a bin buried in your yard that you can put kitchen or food scraps into, which will breakdown over time into a nutritious compost for your garden.

I call it our food composter and there are other terms out there. We have a worm bin for vermacomposting, but when you generate more kitchen scraps than they can handle, this is a good overflow. Making your own food composter is easy. Keep your eyes peeled for small metal garbage cans like so . You punch holes in the bottom for drainage.

Notice how the lids are flush with the ground. We left the wires on the lids to keep sasquatch out. You can cover the layers with shredded paper to keep down any odors, but I haven't noticed any yet.

Now that it is full, we will let it do its thing for 1 year, and then see what we get!
